This sculpture is the work of Guatemalan sculptor Walter Peter Brenner, a smaller casting of an original 12-foot-high bronze that graces the corporate building of HQ FONTABELLA in Guatemala City. Brenner states that he depicts “romantic heroism” in his artworks, and this sculpture is no exception. In his own words, it “symbolizes the human being who reasons, who acquires wisdom, who aspires with justice, fortitude and temperance, is a man of action, is the man who triumphs and achieves happiness fully; he recreates the spirit of the entrepreneurial, [the] productive, the individual who sets himself great challenges by taking high risks, the creator of solutions, the creator of wealth. I am very much inspired [by] the John Galts and Hank Reardens of Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged.”

Brenner hopes that “every individual who encounters the Atlas will feel inspired…will feel that they can achieve each and every one of the goals that they set for themselves in their life, they will feel that it is worthwhile and identify with that vision, they will feel that they can achieve happiness in an intensely profound way.”
