This year’s Gala will take place July 2, 2023, at the InterContinental Miami. For the third year, our annual philanthropic event will coincide with the Objectivist summer conference (OCON). Ticket sales and funds raised at our Gala support our mission of fostering a culture whose guiding principles are reason, rational self-interest, individualism and laissez-faire capitalism.

“Second-hand lives” Handwritten Notes (Facsimile book) — This July 2023 limited-edition bound volume reproduces Ayn Rand’s earliest written notes (from December 1935) on the story she originally called “Second-hand lives.” The volume includes high-quality images of 34 original handwritten pages and a page-by-page transcript. Only five copies of this limited-edition volume will be made available. This is an excellent opportunity to take home the earliest notes on the story that eventually became The Fountainhead.

Framed The Fountainhead manuscript pages — This frame displays reproductions of Ayn Rand’s first draft: handwritten manuscript pages containing what she considered “one of the two best passages of writing in The Fountainhead—the opening of Part 4.” Often referred to as the scene with “the boy on the bicycle,” it is a favorite of many who read the novel. The frame also includes a reproduction of the author photograph of Ayn Rand used for the novel, and a brief description.

Framed The Fountainhead typescript pages — This frame displays reproductions of four typed pages from a later draft of Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead. Although the novel was being prepared for publication (evidenced by various notes about fonts and spacing), Rand’s handwritten edits on these pages indicate her continuing dedication to perfecting her work. Capturing the iconic opening and ending scenes of the novel, these pages represent an important step on the book’s road to publication.

Framed calendar page and photograph related to The Fountainhead film — The items in this frame represent the beginning and end of the story of The Fountainhead film. Ayn Rand’s daily calendar page from October 12, 1943, contains her handwritten note about selling the film rights to Warner Bros. Several years later in 1948, Warner Bros. took publicity photographs to advertise the film, including this one featuring Rand, the film’s director, King Vidor, and its star, Gary Cooper. The calendar page is a reproduction; the photograph is an original.

This first edition, seventh printing, of The Fountainhead, published in January 1944. — This early edition of The Fountainhead was printed during the novel’s first year of publication as it began to gain popularity through word of mouth. This copy retains a rare dust jacket, something less common in mid-20th century books, as home decorators of the time recommended removing them. Once removed from the book, jackets were often lost or discarded. The book is in Near Fine condition with a Very Good dust jacket.

gaetano-print-framed — A small, film-poster-size print of Nick Gaetano’s ca. 1990s cover art for the novel Atlas Shrugged. The print is signed and numbered.

Painted bronze sculpture — This Romantic Realist sculpture by Karl Jensen depicts a woman in a long dress enjoying a warm summer breeze. It stands 27 inches tall and is signed and numbered by the artist (#4/75). Special thanks to Quent Cordair Fine Art for photographs and information about this piece.
